Welcome Grade 3 to your new assignment! You need to plan and create a bridge that will hold 10 toy cars. Please read the design brief for more information.

Design Brief

Bridges are designed in unique and varied ways to suit different weights and to be pleasing to the eye. Engineers who design bridges must first create sketches of their design before making a scale model of the bridge. When designing bridges, engineers need to look at the width of the river, how tides and other weather (like wind) will affect the bridge, and the amount of lanes and space they will need across the bridge. All of these factors determine the type of bridge an engineer will make.

You need to brainstorm and design a sketch of a bridge individually. In groups you will then decide on the best design, or create a new design from the best features of each sketch. Once your group has developed the best sketch for their bridge, you need to create a scale model of the bridge using any materials you need. After the scale model bridge has been created, each bridge will be tested using toy cars. Each bridge must be able to hold the weight and size of 10 toy cars to be successful.
